Write your website copy with excitement and benefits – with your specific target visitor in mind.
Evoke an emotion by identifying a problem and deliver the solution by using your products or service.
Questions? – Send an email to jeannine@stickmen.biz – we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Generally – use the AIDA principle:
A – Attention – Use a powerful headline that demands attention
I – Interest – Intrigue interest and create curiosity
D – Detail – Provide details about your product or service
A – Action – Call for action
Making sense:
Ask yourself after each sentence – “so what” and deliver more detail. Even if the copy makes sense to you – make sure it works for your target audience. Lead them (like on a red string) quick and logically through your copy.
Please remember…benefits, benefits, benefits.
Headline
The headline is the first and most important part of your copy. It has to capture your target audience attention instantly.
Therefore study your target audience needs before writing your web copy to successfully capture THEIR attention.
Introduction
The first paragraph is very important. Website visitors are notorious for their short attention span – they don’t read your website text, they scan. Therefore demonstrate your most important message here. How? Identify a problem and promote your product or service as the solution. Short and precise!
Subheadings
Subheadings can be used to break up your text blocks. They also provide your target audience with important highlights (such as benefits).
Website visitors scan through website text and subheadings will catch their attention much more then long text blocks.
Underline/ bolt specific words in order to help your visitor to scan your website text.
Call for Action
Once the website visitor has read or ‘scanned’ your text, tell them what to do next before they leave your site. These are calls to action. Call us, log in, sign up – whatever suits the purpose of your website text best.
Use them frequently on each page of your website without having them overpower your text.
Testimonials
If you have Testimonials, place them amongst your website copy – they are a great way to reassure your target audience.
Long Copy versus Short Copy
Most visitors prefer short and precise website text. Easy to follow through and quickly to understand.
If you have very long website text – put your most important information first and after a couple of paragraphs add a link ‘read more’ which leads to the rest of your copy. Make sure your target audience will see at first glance the benefits of your service or products (if they are interested they will click on the read more link to get more detailed information).
Again – a logical, easy follow through is key.
Please let us know if these tips are valuable to you and email us if you are interested in a specific subject in connection with web design, web development, internet marketing etc. We will do the leg work for you if we believe your question can add value to other business owners/ entrepreneurs too.
